Cruisin' along the Thames on the Erasmus

Updated: Jun 3

Hello everyone, this year has already whizzed by so fast but the Journeys team isn't fretting... it just means we are closer to seeing everyone enjoy nurturing business relationships whilst creating amazing memories together.

For Journeys in the United Kingdom we are finishing the London programme with a beautiful private cruise along the Thames whilst enjoying a coctail reception as the

sun sets. We will be joining Annette Mentiplay on their main Charter boat, the Erasmus.

1. What is your position and what does your everyday job involve working for City Experiences?

Charter Sales Manager. Sales and Business Development for private boat charters on the Thames. Speaking with potential clients about any variety of events from staff parties, transfers, product launches, dinners, afternoon teas and filming. Whatever you can do on a boat that falls outside of our standard product offering.

2. What are the challenges you face in your current position?

Having enough boats and capacity, especially in peak season.  Also educating the market about the benefits and challenges of a boat compared to a standard venue.

3. What current trends are you seeing and what are they telling you about the marketplace?

We are seeing the international market returning, so more student and tour groups, primarily from the US, parts of Europe and Asia.  Locally, we are seeing companies and consumers be more particular about what they want and their expectations. Showing that the domestic MICE market is there, they just wanted the best value for their money as they are doing few events overall but increasing the per-event budget. Memorable events over many, quality over quantity.

4. What does the future hold for your brand?

We are becoming more global. Whilst we will always have a local focus, we are working more closely with our Global teams and brands to bring a more holistic view to our customers. Live in London and loved your experience here, fantastic! Why not try our products in New York next time you're there? Want to experience the taste of Italy? Fabulous, let us send you on a walking food tour in Tuscany. Heading to Australia? See more from the luxurious Indian Pacific train. We are more than just boats, we are global experiences!

5. Why are you partaking in a Journeys event?

We want to share London with the world.  We truly believe that the best way to see London is via the river. You aren’t stuck in traffic, you get more sights per pound than any other attraction and you can leave the stress on the pier.

6. And your parting message – can you highlight one issue that you think we as an industry should be examining in more detail?

We are all in the same boat (so to speak). As an industry collaboration should be key, we all share customers, and this is important to remember.

We are very excited to board the Erasmus to dine on delicious canapes and experience true luxury cruising along the Thames. See you on the 15th of April!
