On Monday 9 March, the spotlight turns to one of Savannah’s most treasured landmarks as Old Fort Jackson hosts an unforgettable evening of food, music and living history.

Set along the banks of the Savannah River, Old Fort Jackson stands as Georgia’s oldest standing brick fortification and one of the best-preserved coastal forts in the country. Built in the early 1800s to defend the city, the fort has witnessed centuries of American history - from safeguarding the port of Savannah to serving during the Civil War. Today, it offers visitors the rare chance to step directly into the past while enjoying sweeping riverfront views that remain as striking as ever.

This historic setting provides the backdrop for a true celebration of Low Country culture.

A Classic Low Country Feast

The evening will showcase the flavours that define coastal Georgia. Guests will enjoy a traditional oyster roast alongside a generous Low Country boil featuring shrimp, crab, corn, potatoes and sausage - all seasoned to perfection. It’s the kind of Southern spread designed for gathering, sharing and savouring.

Few experiences capture the spirit of the region quite like fresh seafood enjoyed outdoors by the water, and Old Fort Jackson offers a setting that feels both intimate and grand, where history surrounds you and the river drifts by just steps away.

Where History Roars to Life

As dusk settles over the Savannah River, the fort’s powerful story becomes more than something to read about - it becomes something to feel. A live cannon firing demonstration will echo across the waterfront, offering a dramatic reminder of the fort’s original purpose and the generations who stood watch here.

It’s not every evening that dinner comes with artillery.

Music, Atmosphere and Riverfront Views

A local band will provide live entertainment throughout the night, adding energy and rhythm to the celebration. With lantern-lit brick walls, open skies, and the sounds of music mingling with river breezes, the atmosphere promises to be as memorable as the menu.

A Landmark Worth Discovering

Operated by the Coastal Heritage Society, Old Fort Jackson is more than a historic site - it’s a living piece of Savannah’s story. Through interactive demonstrations, costumed interpreters and immersive experiences, the fort continues to bring Georgia’s coastal heritage to life for visitors from around the world.

Hosting this special evening at Old Fort Jackson is a fitting way to honour both place and tradition - blending Southern hospitality, coastal cuisine and centuries of history into one unforgettable night.

Whether you’re drawn by the food, the music, or the chance to experience Savannah’s past in a truly unique setting, Monday 9 March promises an evening where history, culture and community come together in true Low Country style.
