Journeys in Italy, what a blast!

Updated: Jan 5

Hello everyone!

It’s the start of a great year and all of us here at Journeys HQ are still reeling over the success of the inaugural edition of Journeys in Italy! We have so much to come in 2024.

We spent three amazing days in the beautiful region of Umbria visiting Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio and many more fantastic venues. Although the Journeys team had been on site for a while before the event, the excitement was at an all time high on the eve of Journeys in Italy!

If you want to check out how our preparations went in the lead-up to the event, check out the site visit videos for Borgobrufa SPA Resort, Sina Brufani, Posta Donini and Park Hotel ai Cappuccini!

The opening evening kicked off with an aperitif at the beautiful Sina Brufani in Perugia. We were so lucky to welcome the Vice President of Regione Umbria, Roberto Moroni, who were delighted to have so many wonderful people visiting their region! Soon enough everyone was socialising like old friends whilst tasting some delicious Italian appetisers and wines which were generously provided by Venturini Baldini.

Dinner was at La Taverna which was kindly hosted by Andrea, Francesca and Sophie from Borgobrufa SPA Resort. We had plate after plate of delicious food and soon enough the opening night ended with full bellies and a buzz of excitement for the following days. The Journeys team got to catch up with a few industry friends and even got to know some new people throughout the evening. Thank you to all the team at La Taverna!

The next morning couldn't come soon enough and the team was up bright and early to ensure all was ready for the day's meetings and experiences. The Regional Director of Regione Umbria, Dott. Luigi Rosetti said a few words about the amazing region during the opening welcome which built up the suspense of what to expect during Journeys in Italy. Stefano Chiesa, the Managing Director of the Sina Brufani, gave us a bit of history of the hotel and surrounding areas, which was all very interesting!

As soon as it was announced that Journeys in Italy was officially open for business, the room became alive with the familiar buzz of business networking and laughter. Whilst going around the room, the team was greeted by ear-to-ear smiles, which was truly a great start to the event!

We had two artisans come in, Monia and her hand painted her beautiful ceramic vases, ornaments and plates, and Federico, who showed us how he handmakes a lute from scratch. It was very impressive and a great way to understand what the region has to offer via some local talents.

The meetings ensued until lunch where we enjoyed a delicious ‘pranzo povero’ whilst being serenaded by Federico and Mathilde who played on a cello made by Federico himself!

The rest of the day was spent in the beautiful city of Assisi, where we went for a tour around the beautiful Basilica, it was breathtaking to see the original frescoes painted by Giotto and many more talents.

The friars opened the Convento di San Francesco for us which is not normally accessible to the public… the delegates had an opportunity to have meetings where friars used to live centuries ago. Talk about being immersed in culture!

However, we didn’t stop there, just before dinner, we arranged tours of the Domus dell’Arario and the Domus di Properzio where the architecture was beyond its years and fascinating to the modern eye.

Dinner was had at Il Frantoio which overlooked the whole of Assisi whilst we dined on a divine menu prepared by Chef Lorenzo and his team. It was a great way to end an experience and networking-filled day!

Ciao for now!

Alessia and the Journeys team
